Allen Lewis Livick, Sr., 91, of Manchester died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at his residence.
Born August 15, 1919 in Staunton, VA, he was the son of the late William Morton Livick and Florence Anna Craig Livick. He was the husband of Arbutus C. Hidy Livick, his wife of 65 years.
He was an engineer for Edgewood Arsenal Proving Grounds and in his early years he worked for Bethlehem Steel Ship Yard. He attended Staunton First Grade School, Brownsburg, VA School, and Weyers Cave, VA School. He was a WWII veteran of the United State Navy, where he served as a gunner on the USS Fox Destroyer. He served until his ear drum burst from a Canon Gun being discharged.
He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed working with his hands, able to fix almost anything. He enjoyed spending time with his family and made himself available to family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters and son-in-law Carolyn J. Pinning of Sparks, Linda H. and Larry Taylor of Manchester, and Betty James of Chase; his son and daughter-in-law Allen L., Jr. and Christa Livick of Pylesville; his grandchildren Michelle, Darlene, Lisa, and Sherry; his 11 great grandchildren; his brothers Clarence Livick of Staunton, VA and Irvin Livick of Baltimore.
He was predeceased by his sons-in-law James Pinning and Robert James, his grandson Allen L. Livick, III, his 4 brothers and 8 sisters.
The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester where a funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Chris Brammer officiating.
Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
