Annabell May Swam Baer, 77, of Hampstead died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Longview Nursing Home in Manchester.


Born August 31, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Swam and Iova Walker Swam. She was the wife of the late David Eugene Baer, her husband of 58 years, who died on Nov. 4, 2010.

She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. She worked for 23 years with the Carroll County School Board in the finance Department. She had an interest in her grandchildren's sporting events and liked gardening, astrology, and bird watching.


Surviving are her children Darlene Wheeler of Hampstead, David J. Baer of Parkville, Dirk Baer and wife Nancy of Manchester, and Denise Ann Wheeler-Bishop and husband James of Manchester; her grandchildren Tammy, Eric, Joaney, Joshua, Brent, Brady and Cody; her brothers John Swam and his wife Jane of Manchester, Elwood "Woody" Swam and his companion Phyllis Zumbrun of Hampstead, and Robert "Bob" Swam and his wife Carol of Chestertown; her sister Patricia "Pat" Martak of Bel Air; also survived by 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday with her pastor the Rev. Matthew S. Schenning officiating.

Interment will be in the New Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester.
