Listen to Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Frank Navickas, 76, of Reisterstown, MD, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Loch Raven VA Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Born on July 31, 1946, in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony John and Helen Gloria Walton Navickas. He was the beloved fiancé of almost 5 years to Maxine.

In civilian life, Tony worked as a land surveyor at Spellman and Larson and for KCI. He was a veteran of the United States Army, Army National Guard, Air National Guard and Air Force reserve.  He worked as a voice interceptor early in his career when stationed in Berlin, Germany.  Then, while in the Air National Guard he was a part of Desert Shield and supported Operation Enduring Freedom in Oman while serving in one of the NBC cells (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical).  After retiring from the service, Tony was still dedicated to helping his fellow soldiers as a Department Service Officer for the Veterans of Foreign War until he retired.

While Tony was an excellent soldier who was patriotic to his country, he was more importantly a caring (& cool) uncle, cousin and friend, who was also very proud of his Lithuanian heritage.  He would help anyone who needed it, and he loved his family very much.  He would gladly read the same book over and over to his great nephews when they were younger and would bring bushels of crabs to the cousins in Pittsburgh when visiting.  Every holiday without fail we would all receive a large, group text sending us good wishes for the day.  He loved shopping and his thoughtful gift choices were only outdone by his meticulous wrapping of the presents.  But all this being said, Tony was certainly not a saint.  Information was never freely given, we had to ask the right questions to find out anything!
He also loved to tease and drive us crazy.  One Christmas he decided to put our gift cards into plastic puzzle boxes that were impossible for the average human to solve. After three days, using a hammer was our answer to that puzzle!!
In recent years, he was fortunate enough to meet, fall in love with and go on adventures with his friend and now fiancé, Maxine.  We are so grateful he had someone special to share his life with.

So, dear Unc, Cuz and Tony, as annoying as you could be at times and there were many, we loved you and hope you know how much we will miss you and your "puzzles".  Life will not be as interesting with you not in it.  As you entered heaven, we hope Beannie was greeting you with a big smile, just like at Christmas!!

Surviving him in addition to his fiancée is his stepdaughter: Lisa Hartwig, nephew: Dale Skiles and wife Missy, great-nephews: Matthew and Luke, his much-loved cousins from "The Burg", and other extended family.

He was predeceased by his sisters: Marion Alice Navickas and Gloria Skiles and his former wife: Jesse "Dee" Navickas.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 30, at 11:30 am, at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 pm at the VFW Post 521, 214 Tollgate Rd, Owings Mills, MD 21117.  Everyone is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

Arrangements are by the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., Owings Mills, MD.
