Barbara Berta Elisabeth Ludwig Norkus, 68, of Finksburg died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia.
Born July 30, 1942 in Breslau, Germany, she was the daughter of Ella Tekley Ludwig of Brake-Unterweser, Germany and the late Gerhard Ludwig. She was the wife of Joseph Vincent Norkus, her husband of 47 years, who she married in Brake-Unterweser, Germany.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the parish council.
Years ago, she worked as a beautician and had recently worked in the cafeteria at Cranberry Station Elementary School and as a compositor for numerous trade publications with her husband.
She was a member of the PTA and an avid sports booster supporting her sons in sporting activities.
In her spare time she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes as well as bowling, swimming, ice skating, bicycling, gymnastics, and traveling with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her sons and daughter-in-law Michael J. Norkus of Leesburg, VA and Gerhard J. and Susen M. Norkus of Lincoln, DE; a brother Gerd Ludwig of Brake-Unterweser, Germany; her grandchildren Ashley S. and Emily L. Knight and Sarah Elizabeth, Michael Joseph, Katherine Anne, and Mary Victoria Norkus; and a sister-in-law Victoria Sindler of Towson.
The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester with a Requiem Mass celebrated 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, 2930 Hanover Pike, Manchester with the celebrant Rev. Michael Roach officiating.
Interment will be private.
