Barry Clinton Lippy, 78, of Lineboro, MD, passed away on May 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS. Born October 2, 1946, in Manchester, MD to parents Vernon and Julia Lippy, he was a loving husband to Jeanne Marie Lippy for 42 years, and a devoted father to Travis Lippy (Penny), Jennie Chamelin (Sam), Jamie Lynne Hester (Paul), Breanne Hitch (Lester), and Dr. Brittany Fletcher (Collin). He was a 1964 graduate of North Carroll High School and a 1968 graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art and then obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from Millersville University.
Barry was devoted to the visual arts and spent 30 years as an art teacher at Southern Middle School. He excelled at watercolor painting and served as superintendent of the Art Department for both the Carroll County 4-H & FFA Fair and the Maryland State Fair. He also served as the manager for the Carroll County Agricultural Center and the Carroll County 4-H & FFA Fair and worked on the road crew for Carroll County Noxious Weed Team. Barry also spent his early adult years as a lifeguard and manager of Manchester Lions Club Pool where he was proud to say that he taught half of Manchester to swim. But his greatest joy was being a father and grandfather and was happiest with his home full of laughter and chaos.
Barry was known for his generosity of heart, his love of John Wayne and western movies and his silly "Barry-isms" like "That's the way the old pickle squirts" "holy mackerel" and "son of brick" and his strong whistle that each kid knew what it meant.
He is survived in addition to his wife and children by his grandchildren Molly, Katie, Caleb, Laney, Charlotte, Brenna, Graham, Everly, Clark, Grayson and Oliver.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, May 23, from 6-8 pm, at St. Mary's United Church of Christ, 1441 East mayberry Road, Westminster, MD 21158, and on Saturday, May 24, from 10-11 am, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am.
