Betty Virginia Shipley, 84, of Manchester died April 8, 2013 at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester.

Born February 24, 1929 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hatfield and Anna Staultz Hatfield. She was the wife of Robert Charles Shipley, who died on October 31, 1998.

She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manchester and was active with the Salvation Army. She had worked as a loan officer for the former Carroll County Bank and Trust Company.

Surviving is a daughter Bonnie Messick; a step daughter Barbara Guthrie; her siblings Elizabeth Rippeon, Doris F. Brown, Darlene Blickenstaff, Carlos Hatfield, and Wayne Hatfield; and her several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Austin Edward Albrecht, her stepson Robert L. Shipley, and a grandson Allen LaBrush.


The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester and 10 a.m. Friday until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3184 Church Street, Manchester with her pastors the Revs. Matthew S. and Norma L. Schenning officiating.

Interment will be in New Lutheran Cemetery in Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 739, Manchester, MD 21102 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
