Daniel "Dan" Scherer, 73, of Hampstead, MD, formerly of Phoenix, MD, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Carroll Hospital Center. Born on September 5, 1949, in Baltimore County, MD, he was the son of the late Dorothy "Dot" (Beaver) and C. Russell Scherer. He is survived by his wife Paula.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son: Brian D. Scherer and fiancé Katelyn of Owings Mills, stepdaughters: Amber L. Ludwig and husband Justin of Manchester and Leia N. Price and fiancé Cory Schultz of Hampstead, three grandchildren: Eli Ludwig, Tanner Schultz, and Hattie Price, and brother: Michael Edward Scherer of Middle River.
Dan served in the U.S Marines from 1969 to 1971 in Vietnam, the USMC Reserves from 1971-1975, and the U.S Air Force Reserves from 1975-1976. After his time in the service, he worked as a powdered metal machinist for Stanley Black & Decker, retiring after 37 years. On the weekends he was a mechanic and truck driver for a friends drag racing team. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Yamaha Royal Star, and running a DJ and karaoke business.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm at Parkton American Legion Post #256, 19520 York Road, Parkton, MD. 21120.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, or to the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company, 1341 N. Main Street, Hampstead, MD. 21074. There will also be a box for items to make care packages for soldiers serving overseas.
