Charles "Ed" Garman, 85 years old of Westminster, died Monday, June 8 2009 at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born October 29, 1923 in Brodbecks, PA, he was the son of the late George Smith Garman and Carrie M. Byerly Garman. He is survived by his wife Ann Stevens Garman.
Ed grew up in Reisterstown. He served honorably during WW II with the 580th Anti-Aircraft Company for 3 years, 2 of them in Germany.
When he returned home, he was a founding partner of Garman Brothers Inc. a manufacturer and wholesaler of Industrial Lumber. He worked for his company for 60 years. The company is now owned by his son, Gary.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, theater, Baltimore Symphony Concerts, mainly the Pops and his family. He was a life member of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company and the American Legion.
He was a member of the Reisterstown United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Reisterstown Lions Club for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter and son in law Priscilla Garman Ellrich and Reed Ellrich of Sykesville, sons and daughters in law Chuck and Kristi Garman of Towson, Gary and Janet Garman of Crownsville, and Robert and Heidi Garman of Glenwood; grandchildren Bryan, Kelly, Michael, Christopher, Michelle, Nicholas, T.J., Daniel, and Kathleen; his sisters Doris Mann of Pikesville and Mary Bean of Reisterstown; his brother James Garman of Cockeysville.
He was predeceased by his sister Ann Bennett and Marie Shipley and his brothers George, Arthur, and Louis Garman.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.
A funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
