Carol Duckwall Nicoll, age 92, passed away on July 22, 2026 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease at Carroll Lutheran Village Healthcare in Westminster, MD.
She was born in Baltimore MD, the daughter of the late Reed and Mildred Duckwall of Towson MD.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Carl Robert Nicoll, and her children to include Catherine MacArthur of Annapolis MD, Laura Hessler of Raleigh NC, Dorothy Lucas of Hampstead MD, and Darcie Nicoll of Hagerstown MD. Her son, Dr. Brian Nicoll passed away from metastatic cancer in 2016. She had 23 Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Carol graduated with a BS in Education from Towson State Teachers College (now Towson University) in 1956. She was a Homemaker except for her two years of teaching at the Calvary Lutheran School in Silver Springs, MD.
They spent the bulk of their married life in Upstate New York, returning to Maryland in 1994 to be nearer their aging parents, purchasing a home in Manchester MD. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester MD, where she received her training as a Stephen Minister. In 2005 they moved to Carroll Lutheran Village.
Carol was an accomplished pianist and choir vocalist. Throughout her life she was an avid gardener, seamstress, and needlework artisan.
She managed their farm in upstate NY and raised sheep for the hand spinners market. She was the consummate mother for her five children.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 28, from 12:30-1 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment to follow in the St. Abraham's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hampstead MD.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
