Charles Herbert Gibson, 84, of Reisterstown, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Seasons Hospice from natural causes.
Born Jan. 29, 1924, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Herbert R. and Elizabeth Smith Gibson. He was the husband of Jacqueline Blaine Gibson, who died in 2006.
He retired from the United States Army, where he had served for more than 25 years. He was a master sergeant and had served throughout the world, starting in World War II; and had seen action at the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a Boy Scout leader in the Canal Zone and in the United States. He was an artist and author, having published books. He had been active in veteran's affairs and was instrumental in starting the 465th AAA battalion's reunions. He had also been a member of the Rotary.
He enjoyed spending time at his forested Worthington Valley home, where he regularly fed the squirrels, birds and deer.
Surviving are daughters Patricia Knife of Reisterstown and Pamela Ann Roberge of Farmington, Conn.; son C. Blair Gibson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, with the Rev. Clarence Roark officiating. Interment will be private, with military honors, at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
