Charles Maynard Rost, 84, of Hampstead died on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Carroll Lutheran Village Healthcare Center in Westminster.
Born on August 21, 1924 in Baltimore and was the son of the late Peter Vernon Rost and Matilda Green Rost. He was the husband of Ruth Alma Comer Rost, his wife of 66 years.
Mr. Rost was a United States Army veteran of WWII. He was a longtime employee of Charles T. Brandt, Inc. and later operated his own trucking business.
He was previously a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Stoney Creek, a founding member of Galilee Lutheran Church in Lake Shore, a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church for 41 years, Past President of Orchard Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Past Vice President of Orchard Beach Improvement Association, and a member of the American Legion in Hampstead, Post 200.
In addition, he was life member of the Glen Burnie Masonic Lodge 213, a member of Lebanon Lodge 175 in Manchester and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, 108.
Furthermore, he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a charter member of Carroll Scottish Rite Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons and daughters in law C. McKinley and Patricia M. Rost and Richard E. and Joyce A. Rost, all of Hampstead; grandchildren Jennifer White, Jon C. Rost, Peter B. Rost, and Sarah J. Rost; great grandchildren Matthew and Ryan White; sister Anna Bosley.
He was predeceased by his birth parents Charles Griffith and Anna Rost Griffith and his grandson Matthew Rost.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4300 Church Road, Hampstead, (Baltimore County), with his pastor the Rev. Linda A. Lewis Officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Lutheran School, 1738 Old Taneytown Road, Westminster, MD 21158.
