Charles M. Therit age 93 of Manchester died Thursday May 14, 2009 at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born August 12, 1915 in Manchester, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Clara Virginia Miller Therit. He was the husband of the late Mary Rupp Therit his wife of 62 years who died September 16, 2002.

He loved farming and had a garden most of his life. He owned and operated the former Therit's Market at MD 30 and Deep Run Rd from which he retired in 1980.
He bought a farm in Littlestown, PA where he operated Charlie's Flea Barn from 1980-1995.

He was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester, MD. He was a 50 year member of the Moose Lodge in Hanover, PA and member of Lineboro-Manchester Lions Club. In addition, he was life member of the Dughill Rod and Gun Club and a member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company.

Survived by his children Audrey Shaffer of Hampstead, Ellen Hopkins and husband John of Eugene, Or, Shirley Richards of Manchester, Dale Therit of Manchester, Mary Mitchell and husband Frederic, Jr. of Fuquay, NC and David Therit and wife Sandra of Raleigh, NC. He was the father in law of Faye Therit of Freeland, and Gerald Scott of Dearborn, MI. He is also survived by 16 Grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

He was predeceased by son Charles Therit and daughter Ruth Ann Scott and grandson Dr. Steven N. Shaffer, his brothers Earl, Maurice, Sterling, and Walter Therit, and his sisters Mamie Dunlap, Grace Smith, and Erma Myers.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9pm. Sunday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A. 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3184 Church St. Manchester with his pastor Rev. Matthew Schenning officiating.

Interment will be in the New Lutheran Church, Manchester.
