Cherry Elaine Richardson, 63 years old of Reisterstown, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson.

Born January 6, 1946 in Bellaire, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin J. Kimmell and Lydia E. Szerencses Kimmell.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa "Missy" Richardson.

Born and raised in the Ohio Valley, she was the daughter of a coal miner who was also the head of the State of Ohio Coal Mining Rescue Team.

Her mother Lydia and father Ben died when she was 10 & 16 respectively. She lived in Geneva, Switzerland for a year and a half with family right after graduating from high school and then moved back to the U.S. where she met and married her husband, James E. Richardson.
Their marriage ended in divorce.

Daughter Melissa is her only child.

Anyone who knew her knew that her daughter was the most important thing in her life. In her younger years, she was very athletic and loved walking. For years she would walk 5-7 miles a day.

In high school, she was voted most popular in her high school senior class.

She also was a Majorette, a member of the Debate Team and was part of a select group of students who were given the opportunity to study the Russian language for all four years of high school.

She also studied French all 4 years in high school. Throughout her life, she was loved by everyone .

She was known for her incredible sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh. She loved football and the Pittsburg Steelers.

She loved cars, especially fast cars and was a member of the Toyota Celica Club.

She was an animal lover and dog fancier. She owned and showed dogs for 30 years and was a member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America and the American Whippet Club.

Her last job was an Operations Manager with the State of Maryland at MEMA at Camp Fretterd in Reisterstown.

She was a lover of justice and always looked out for the welfare of children and animals. She was active in the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's and 70's and had a great respect and admiration for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with regard to his message for equality for all people.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glyndon, 65 Sacred Heart Lane.

Interment Private.
