Claire Pica Vey, 78, of Hampstead, MD, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at her daughter's home in Hampstead, MD. Born on January 6, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Albert Joseph Pica and Edna Dorothy Broessel (Pica) Wenck. She was the beloved wife of the late John Edward Vey, who passed away in 2016.
Claire worked as a registered nurse for Carroll County Public Schools. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Manchester, where she initiated The Prayer Shawl ministry, served on numerous church committees, and sang in the church choir. Recently, she became a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hampstead. Claire loved the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, she also enjoyed listening to worship music. She loved her little dog, Sammy.
Surviving her is a daughter: Kristin Chamberlin and husband Gary Roger, Jr. of Hampstead, MD, grandchildren: Zachary Vey and partner Madeline Wolfe and her son Greyson Wolfe, Ethan Chamberlin and partner Madison Mirabito, and great-grandchild: Charlotte Chamberlin, and grandson: Logan. She is also survived by a sister: Ruth Rose of Gamber, MD, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and her lifelong friend: Anita Parton.
Claire was predeceased by her sister: Susan Ellis, stepbrothers: Rev. Guy Wenck and Rev. Edwin Wenck, and stepfather: Millard Fillmore Wenck.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, April 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at 11 am, with Rev. Andy Carr officiating.
Interment is private.
If desired, donations may be offered to St. Marks Lutheran Church, 1375 N. Main Street, Hampstead, MD.
