Clarence Emphery Baughman Sr., 88, of Manchester died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at home.

Born Nov. 7, 1919, in Lineboro, he was the son of the late James H. Baughman Sr. and Treva Marie Baughman. He was the husband of Pauline N. Tasto Baughman, his wife of 54 years, who died in August 2004.

He was a farmer and a painter. He served in the Army and was a prisoner of war in Germany for 14 months. He was a lifelong member of Lazarus United Church of Christ.

In his spare time he was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Butch and Jackie Lynn Baughman of Manchester; daughter and son-in-law Susan Eileen and Ronald Miller of Carlisle, Pa.; brothers Charles Baughman of Hanover, Pa., and James Baughman Jr. of Cross Keys, Hanover; sisters Anna Mae Witter of East Berlin, Pa., and Catherine Palmer of Prince Frederick; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lazarus UCC, 5101 S. Church St., Lineboro, with the Rev. Sam Chamelin officiating.

Interment will be in Lineboro Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Lazarus United Church of Christ, 5101 S. Church St., Lineboro, MD 21102; or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
