Clarence "Ed" Edward Ruby, 70, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at his home. Born on August 7, 1953, in Baltimore City, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence Herbert Ruby and Lois Mae Watts Ruby. He was the beloved husband of almost 50 years to Peggy Jane Ruby.

Years ago, Ed was a police officer for the Town of Manchester and the City of Westminster, as well as a paid fireman with the Westminster Fire Department.  He retired from the Frock Brothers as a truck driver. He was a member of the Manchester, Hampstead, and Taneytown Volunteer Fire Companies.  He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, where he was past president. Ed loved golfing, fishing, tinkering in the shed and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving him in addition to his wife are children: Scott Ruby and partners Jeremy Grandstaff and Jerry Jayjohn, JoEllen Shaffer and fiancé Terry Goodwin, and Patricia Ruby and husband Jonathan Tolbert, 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, siblings: Rita Harris, Pierce Ruby and wife Leah Ruby, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son-in-law: Chad Shaffer and brother: Kenneth Ruby.

Interment is private.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 11 am – 4 pm, at the Manchester VFD Activities Building, 3297 York St, Manchester, MD 21102.  Please contact Mrs. Peggy Ruby to RSVP if you plan to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Ed's name to your local volunteer fire department or police department.

Arrangements are by the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., Manchester, MD.
