Cleaborn "Butch" Thurman Houser, 86, of Westminster, MD, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. Born on April 19, 1938, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Thurman Cleaborn Houser and Helen Marie Baldwin Houser. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to the late Nancy Jane Houser, who passed away in 2021.
Butch was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as an industrial worker for many years at Black & Decker. He retired from Carroll County Public Schools where he was proud to work as a custodian for North Carroll High School, supporting the North Carroll Panthers. Butch also worked his farm, raising vegetables and meat to feed his family. He enjoyed hiking and camping with his kids and studying philosophy, history, and the Bible.
Surviving him are children: Susanna Hinojosa and husband Pepe, Ruth McElheny and husband Doug, Deborah Jacobellis, Mary Wilson and husband Mark, Michael Houser and wife Elisa. Surviving him are 13 grandchildren: John, Angela, Brandy, Jacob, Diana, Jessie, Joshua, Jackie, Rachel, Jodi, Jessica, Garrett, and Gunnar. Butch also has 9 great-grandchildren: Brandon, Layne, Cheyenne, Wyatt, Annie, Matthew, Nate, Conor, and Jackson.
Butch was predeceased by his son, John Houser and his granddaughter, Sophia Jacobellis Brandel.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, April 15, from 10 – 10:45 am, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 1095 Church Road, Orrtanna, PA 17353, in the parish center. A funeral mass will begin at 11 am in the church.
Interment to follow in St. Davids' New Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
