Clifton Wright Hedges passed away peacefully in Westminster, Maryland on January 18, 2012 at the age of 94
Born May 1, 1917 in Clifton, Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles E. Hedges and Lillian Hedges. He was the husband of Vina B. Hedges of Westminster. They were married in April 1938, his wife of 74 years;
Cliff worked for the federal government for 34 years retiring in 1972. His government career began in the 1940's at the Washington D.C., Navy Yard working in the optical shop making lenses and other optics used on WWII aircraft bombsights. He retired from the accounting and payroll department at the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Carderock, Maryland.
After retirement he and his wife moved to Millsboro, Delaware where he enjoyed hobbies of furniture refinishing, gardening and the art of winemaking. He was active in the Lions Club receiving the Melvin Jones award, which is the highest level of recognition for service to the lions clubs and the community. They moved to Westminster Maryland in 1995 to be closer to their son and grandchildren.
Surviving are his son Charles R. Hedges of Westminster, Maryland; two grandchildren Garrett C. Hedges of Loveland, Ohio, Kara Hedges Sasse of Washington D. C., and three great grandchildren, Abbygael, Gabrielle and Everett Hedges.
A private cremation was held at
All Faiths Crematory and Chapel in Manchester.
