Listen to Obituary

David L. Bohn, 74, of Upperco, was born on October 8, 1948, to Roger G. and Mary Bostain Bohn. He passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, from an aggressive metastatic cancer.

David grew up in Frederick and went to schools in Walkersville. In elementary school, his favorite part of the school day was going to play outside on the jungle gym. Any time in later years, when passing the playground, he would fondly reminisce of those days. Just before his senior year, his parents moved to Taneytown. He graduated in 1966 from Taneytown High School. After graduating, David studied business/accounting at Baltimore Business College, then enlisted with the Navy. He served on the USS Camden during the Vietnam war. Once returning home, he and two of his brothers worked for the Pepsi Cola Company out of Frederick. On one of his routes, he delivered to Elmo's, where he met Nettie. They married in 1973, started a family by having a son and a daughter. Dave owned and operated the family business, Elmo's Luncheonette, with his wife for over 45 years. He was famous for his ready-made breakfast sandwiches and perfectly cooked scrapple. After retiring in 2016, David finally had time to do what he loved. He enjoyed spending time at home, gardening his flowers and vegetables, working in his greenhouse, feeding, and watching the wide variety of birds he attracted, riding his electric bicycle, attending church, and going out to restaurants, especially for steamed crabs and seafood. His dream was to travel across the United States to see 'his' country. Unfortunately, his life was too short, and he was not able to fulfill that desire.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Nettie Bohn, is his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Cathy Bohn, his daughter, Tina Bohn, and grandchildren Jarrod, Carly, and Kyle Bohn. He is also survived by siblings and their spouses, Sandy and Bob Myers, Marlin and Judy Bohn, Joyce and Mel Seidenzahl, Sheila and Paul Wells, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Gene, Larry, Wayne, and Ronald Bohn.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 24, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25, at 11 am.

Interment to follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Upperco, MD.
