Donald Ernst Miller, "Duck", 67 years old of Manchester, died Saturday, June 21, 2014 in Tampa Fl., after a courageous battle with cancer and heart complications.
Born January 21, 1947 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles Jacob Miller, Sr. and Clara Johanna Ernst Miller.
He was the husband of Carol Lynn Smith Miller, his wife of nearly 44 years.
Raised in Hampstead, he graduated from North Carroll High School in 1965. After six years of dating, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Lynn Smith on September 5, 1970. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. From his high school days through his retirement decades later, he worked for and was a long time co- owner of C.J. Miller, Inc., the family business founded by his parents in 1959. He was a hard-working and supportive father. When not working, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to the Caribbean, and feeding his never ending thirst for knowledge. He was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ in Hampstead.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Daryl Vincent Miller and his fiancee Deanna Peters, Dr. Danielle Lynn Miller and her husband Dr. Benjamin Biebel, who are expecting his future grandson, and Dayton Lee Miller and his wife Maria Camacho; a brother, Paul David Miller and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Jacob Miller, Jr. "Buck".
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 27 from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A. 3296 Charmil Dr. Manchester, MD 21102. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, at 10:00 AM at St. Mark's United Church of Christ, 1616 Cape Horn Rd. Hampstead, MD 21074.
