Donald Gilbert Meekins, 90, of Finksburg, MD, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at his home with his family by his side. Born on March 25, 1932, in Garrison, MD, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. Meekins and Ella Virginia Harmon Meekins.
Years ago, Donald worked with Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery as a groundskeeper. When he was younger, he used to play softball with his siblings and neighborhood friends. In his later years, he enjoyed playing guitar and the mandolin. He also enjoyed George Jones songs, and singing, especially with his grandson, Caleb. His family was his pride and joy. Donald's lasting advice and words of wisdom to his family and friends: "Ask and you will receive." He will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are children: Terry Manning and husband Claude, Donald Jay Meekins and wife Cathy, Mark Meekins, Marie Ensor and significant other Michael Albaugh, Heidi Meekins and fiancé Tim Warner, grandchildren: Mandy, Jack, Brittany, Kiersten, Bradley, Kyle, Samantha, Dustin, Peyton, Caleb, and great-grandchildren: Jackson, Kaylee, Kolton, Bentley and Aulbrey. He is also survived by his brothers: Nelson Meekins of Romney, WV, and Dave Meekins of Hanover, PA.
Donald was predeceased by his siblings: Lillie L. Hoy, Evelyn I. Sibley, Grace V. Hastings, Bannie Hudgins, Lawrence "Sharkey" A. Meekins, Douglas "Duke" E. Meekins, Irvin "Stan" S. Meekins, and Glenn S. H. Meekins.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 10, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 10:30 am.
Interment to follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg, MD.
