Listen to Obituary

Donald William Myers, 77, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at home in Westminster, MD, comforted by his wife and son after defying the odds against brain cancer for over three years.  Born August 1, 1947, in Hampstead, MD, he was the son of the late Melvin W. Myers and Ethel M. Myers, and brother to the late Martha L. Rill and Dennis L. Myers.  He is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Brenda M. Myers; his only son Christopher W. Myers and wife Kristy of Vienna, VA; his brother Douglas E. Myers and wife Sue of Manchester, MD; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A 1965 graduate of North Carroll High School, Don was honored as the Outstanding Senior Athlete for his achievements in soccer, basketball, and track.  He studied at the University of Maryland and later earned a degree in Accounting from the Baltimore Institute.

Don spent his entire professional career in public service, working for the State of Maryland for over 30 years.  He started with the Comptroller's Office before moving to administrative roles with the Maryland State Police, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and eventually the Public Service Commission, from which he retired in August 2003.

After retirement, he partnered with his long-time best friend, Ken Lucas, to help build Lucas Restorations, specializing in first generation Camaros.  Thanks to years of hard work, Don was eventually able to own and enjoy the muscle car he once could only dream of as a young man.  He enjoyed showing his car and spending time with "the car guys" at the twice-yearly Cruisin' events in Ocean City, MD as well as at regular shows in Westminster and Eldersburg.

Don's retirement years also saw him enjoy traveling the country and Caribbean with his wife and friends, as well as spending time with his wife and family in Cove Point, MD, at a property passed down from his brother.  Whether working or retired, at home or traveling, he was always available to help his son at a moment's notice with pet-sitting, car advice, frequent relocations, painting, or anything that was asked of him.

Don was an avid golfer through the 1980's and 1990's, carding a hole-in-one at Sandpiper Bay in Calabash, NC, in 1991.  There was also an unverified claim of missing a perfect game in bowling by a single pin many years ago.  A casual fan of the Orioles, Ravens, and Terps, he became a passionate fan of the Washington Capitals later in life after being introduced to NHL hockey by his son.  Though he would not readily admit it, Don was an animal lover his entire life and will be dearly missed by his current feline buddy, Junior.

The family will receive family and friends from 4-6 PM, with a prayer beginning at 4 pm, on June 23, 2025, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102.
