Dorothy Mae Blake Rooney, 84 years old, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, October 19, 2007 at her home in Reisterstown. Born July 4, 1923 in Medford, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Francis Harold Wolfe and Mary Jane Slaney Wolfe of Salem, New Hampshire. She was the devoted and beloved wife for 56 years of James Albert Rooney.

With her sense of adventure and duty, Mrs. Rooney served honorably with the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. She was an avid reader of mystery books and loved animals. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glyndon for 38 years.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her children: James Francis Rooney and his wife Julie of Portola Valley, California, Madeleine Rooney and her friend Anita Holloway of Chicago, Illinois and Thomas Rooney of Westminster, Maryland. She is the grandmother of James William, Zachary, Marcus and Abigail Rooney; sister-in-law of Gertrude Wolfe of Salem, N.H. and is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by her 3 siblings: Madeline Moberg and Francis and Harold Wolfe.

At her request, she was cremated. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3rd at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Rd., Owings Mills. Her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Salem, N.H., at a later date. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 3rd from 2 – 4 PM at the funeral home followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM. Flowers are being accepted; if desired, donations in her name may be made to: Reisterstown Library, BCPL, 21 Cockeys Mill Rd. Reisterstown, MD 21136. She was dearly loved, will be greatly missed, and her memory will be always treasured.
