Listen to Obituary
Dorothy Richardson Markland, 92, of Boring, died peacefully at home on June 9, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Markland was the beloved wife of Vinton Markland, devoted mother of Stephanie (and Bruce) Tracey and Harry "Tony" (and Barbara) Markland; loving grandmother of Chadmark (and Debbie) Tracey, Courtney Tracey, Joshua Markland, and SGT Lucas (SSG Rashawnda) Markland, both currently serving in Iraq; and precious great grandmother of J.T., Alexis, Jacob, Vincent, and Hunter Tracey. She was predeceased by her sister Louise Parmentier and her brothers Phillip, Amos, Leonard, and Charles Richardson. A member of the Greatest Generation, Dorothy lived through the Great Depression and worked full time during World War II supporting our troops in Europe. She was a gracious hostess with the gift of hospitality and served delighted guests in the lovely dining room of her 100 year old home. Mr. and Mrs. Markland lovingly raised their family with the conservative values of a past generation. Dorothy was a dear friend of Mrs. Helen Almony and devoted member of Spirit and Spice Bible Study and Pleasant Grove Church. After the death of her husband in 1990, she devoted her life to family, church, and community. During her lengthy illness, she was blessed with eight devoted caretakers. The family rejoices that Dorothy knew Jesus as Savior and, together with her husband, is with the Lord now.

The family will receive visitors at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Church 15300 Dover Road, Reisterstown.

Donations may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
