Dorothy Brown Smith, 92, of Hanover, PA, formerly of Clearview Avenue in Hampstead, MD, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA, where she had been living since 2010. Born on December 6, 1928, in Pleasant Grove, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frank Laoma and Laura Bosley Brown. She was the beloved wife of 74 years to Raymond Eugene Smith.
Years ago, Dorothy was employed at Hampstead Bank of Carroll County, now M&T Bank, where she worked for 23 years. Dorothy was a devoted parishioner of St. Mark's United Church of Christ since 1946, where she served as president of the Church Women for 60 years, taught Sunday School for 26 years, and was a member of the choir for 60 years. She was a member of Carroll Hospital Center Auxiliary, a lifetime member of Hampstead Vol. Fire Co. Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of Homewood Auxiliary at Hanover, PA. Dorothy was a former coordinator for Meals on Wheels, former volunteer for Carroll Hospital Center, and a former secretary of MD Rural Letter Carrier's Auxiliary.
Surviving her in addition to her husband is a son: Donald Smith and wife Mary, a sister: Evelyn B. Smith, 11 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews, and 22 great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 18, 2020 from 12-2 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102. Funeral services are private. A burial will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 3:15 PM at St. Mark's Church Cemetery, Snydersburg, MD.
