Dorothy Ruthetta Townshend

Dorothy Ruthetta Townshend, 96, of Manchester, Maryland, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Golden Crest Assisted Living on Albert Rill Road near Manchester.  Born on November 10, 1925 in Melrose, Dorothy was the daughter of the late LaMar Ecker Townshend and the late Helen Charlotte Townshend.

Dorothy had no siblings, spouse, or children.  She enjoyed a 44-year career with U.S. Fidelity & Guaranty Company in Baltimore, eventually rising to the position of quality control supervisor.  Dorothy lived in Manchester all of her life except while living in Baltimore for several years early in her career.  After retirement, she was regularly seen walking in Manchester and spending time with friends at the community swimming pool during the summer.  Dorothy was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester and a volunteer at the Manchester Historical Center.  She was an avid flower gardener and helped maintain the garden across from the Manchester Post Office.  Dorothy was an independent woman who traveled to many countries around the world and went on cruises into her 90s.

Dorothy is survived by several cousins.  In keeping with Dorothy's wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be held.  Private inurnment will be in her family's burial lot in Manchester Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3184 Church Street, P.O. Box 739, Manchester, MD 21102.
