Edith May Gardner (nee Ruby) passed away on January 28, 2025, just days after her 96th birthday. She resided in the Hampstead/Manchester, MD area for a large part of her life, and lived at Cross Keys Village in New Oxford, PA for the last 25 years.  She was treasured for her love of family and friends, admired for her resilience, and known for her endearing sense of humor.

Born January 20, 1929, in Snydersburg, MD, Edith was the daughter of the late Raymond Franklin Ruby and Edna Marie (Hare) Ruby. She was the wife of the late Leonard E Garder.  Surviving is daughter, Vonnie L Cullison and husband Douglas R Cullison of Manheim, PA; brother, Paul Ruby of Nokesville, VA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by siblings, Helen Ruby, Mary Harris, Dorothy Hale, William D. Ruby, Carroll F. Ruby, Gladys O'Connor, Arthur Ruby, and Russell Ruby.

She was employed as a seamstress by the Maryland Hampstead Clothing Company (which was later sold to the Joseph A Bank Manufacturing Co.) for many years and enjoyed part-time employment at Weis Market's bakery in Hampstead following her retirement.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 2, from 2-5 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, February 3, at 10 am, with Pastor Rodney Gross officiating.

Interment to follow in St. Abraham's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hampstead, MD.

Please join the family to share your favorite memories at a luncheon that will be provided following interment.  We will be gathering at Illiano's J&P Restaurant, 903 South Main Street, Hampstead, MD 21074.  Those of you that will not be attending the graveside service can proceed to the restaurant immediately following the funeral service.  A room is set aside where you can wait for those arriving after the burial at St. Abrahams.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Cross Keys Village, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, Pennsylvania 17350.
