Edward "Ed" Shock, born August 25, 1946, passed away peacefully at the Dove House with his daughter Barbara and grandkids Skylar and Logan on September 19, 2025, at the age of 79.
Ed lived a life defined by hard work, family devotion, and perseverance. He began his career working at Berg's Milk Company, where he met the love of his life, Jo Ann "Nonnie" Pollutra Shock. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage filled with love and partnership.
Following his time at Berg's Dairy Farm, Ed worked with his father-in-law, Joseph Pollutra, at Pantry Pride in the trucking division, delivering groceries. He later drove for Robins Trucking before starting his own company, Olde Tyme Inc. Trucking, which he proudly operated for years. Always industrious, Ed also long-hauled loads of Christmas trees and pumpkins, embracing the open road and the work that provided for his family. Alongside Jo Ann, he also owned and ran Jo-Ed's Restaurant in Hanover, PA, and Jo-Ed's Sub Shop in Manchester, MD, where neighbors and travelers alike could always count on a good meal and warm company.
Ed is survived by his loving daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Gregory Hull. He was a proud grandfather to Logan, Skylar, Joseph, and Morgan, and he also loved Skylar's husband, Clayton, like one of his own. He shared a particularly close bond with Logan and Skylar, who were by his side through so much of life. He is also survived by his sister, Ester; his nieces, Shelly and Danielle; and his brothers, Doug and Frank.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jo Ann Pollutra Shock, his children Eddie, Lenny, and Laura, his parents Charles Shock and Helena Brenneman, his brother Charlie, and his nephew, Adam.
Ed will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, his devotion to his family, and the legacy of love and strength he leaves behind. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 3-6 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102.
