Eleanor A. Miller

Eleanor A. Miller, of Hanover, PA, 96, went home to be with her heavenly Father, unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep on August 30, 2023. She has now joined her husband Gil Miller who preceded her in death on March 23, 2020. Her devotion to family, friends and the Lord Jesus Christ gave her a peace that transcends all understanding.

Eleanor was born on February 4, 1927, in Pleasanton, New Jersey. She was a prayer warrior who faithfully prayed for her family and friends by name. Her work ethic was impeccable as she faithfully served her savior at River Valley Ranch (RVR). She was best known at RVR for mentoring teenagers with a servant's heart by cleaning bathrooms, window washing and doing general cleaning responsibilities. Every Saturday during the summer she would prepare Cowboy Stew and Sour Dough Biscuits for an average of 100+ people.  She was an amazing cook and had signature dishes such as Chicken Chow Mein, Hot & Sweet Mustard, Cheeseballs, Easter Eggs, and Vanilla Wafer Cake that she would prepare as gifts to family and friends for Christmas, Easter, and other special events.

Here is how Tom Bissett, Chairmen Emeritus of Peter & John Ministries described Eleanor in his most recent book (A Risky Obedience: The Story of Peter & John Ministries): "Gil and Eleanor dedicated themselves to cheerfully doing their part in the day-to-day operation of River Valley Ranch. They never complained, always worked hard, readily did favors, and helped others at any time and place. Their unwavering loyalty and love for Rev. John Bisset and the ministry of P&JM will never be surpassed in the history of this ministry."

Eleanor is survived by her daughter Sharon Miller, son Dan Miller, son Paul Miller, daughter-in-law Roberta Mellott Miller, grandchildren Jonathan Miller and wife Emily Niese Miller, Christine Miller Gerdes and husband Peter Gerdes, and great grandchildren Eleanor Gerdes (her name's sake) and Isabel Gerdes.

We will celebrate Eleanor's life at River Valley Ranch on September 10th, with a luncheon at 12:30 PM and a time of memories and blessings following. Eleanor will be buried at a private graveside service at New Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester, MD on Monday September 11.
