Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Fowble, 67, of Manchester died Friday, March 28, 2008, peacefully with her family by her side at Hanover Hospital in Hanover, PA.

She was born July 5, 1940 in Hanover, PA and was the daughter of the late James H. Blizzard and Carrie Lambert Blizzard. She was the wife of Russell Joseph Fowble, her husband of 49 years.

Mrs. Fowble was a graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1958 and was a member of Millers United Methodist Church in Millers. She loved spending time with her family and her hobbies included knitting, crafts, scrap booking, reading, working in her garden and loved to take cruise vacations. She was the leader of Maryland Girl Scout Troop # 486.

In addition, Mrs. Fowble was the first female member of the Manchester Town Council and worked on the Manchester Planning and Zoning Commission. She was a representative for Carroll County on the Maryland Municipal League and was a member of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee and was the treasure of the North Carroll Democratic Club. She was the former Executive Director of the Carroll County Literacy Council, worked as a longtime literacy tutor, and was the recipient of the Kathryn Severts Award for outstanding service to the literacy Council.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughters and sons in law Vickie L. Leese of Westminster, Marcia L. and Ted Rohde of Millers, Stephanie A. and Donald, Jr. Bayne of Catonsville; grandchildren Lisa Cooper, Keith Cooper, Abbie Koller, Emily Leese, and James Bayne; great grandchildren Olivia Tripp and Gabrielle Tripp; sister of Faye Green of Sykesville, Richard Blizzard of Melrose, FL; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers James Blizzard and William Blizzard.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester with Rev. Ira Barr officiating.

Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
