Elizabeth "Betty" Smedley Kammerer, 96, of Reisterstown, MD, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at New Life Assisted Living in Ellicott City, MD. Born on April 2, 1925 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter to the late Bedford Leo and Marie Schmitt Smedley. She was the beloved wife to the late George A. Kammerer, Jr., who passed away in 2016. Following the death of her husband, she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, John King.
Years ago, Betty was the executive secretary for Baltimore City Department of Education. For the majority of her life, she was a homemaker, and in her later years she worked part time at Malco Plastics. She loved bowling, and was a member of the Reisterstown Bowling League. Betty enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and was a talented dancer. During her time at Seaton High School, she won an award for writing a play.
Betty is survived by her children: Patricia Kammerer Tinkey, George "Chip" Kammerer, Lynn Mejia, 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a brother: Leo McManus.
She was predeceased by siblings: Marie, Frances, and Buck.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 10-11 am at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a funeral service will follow beginning at 11am.
Interment will take place on Thursday, May 20 at 10:30 am in Woodlawn Cemetery, 2130 Woodlawn Drive, Baltimore, MD 21207.
