Elsie Catherine Jackson, 84, of Owings Mills passed peacefully on December 5, 2011 after a long term of Alzheimer's.
Born July 14, 1927 in Carroll County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Helen Hahn Hyde.
She was the wife of Suter Bryce Jackson, her husband of 61 years.
She was a life member of VFW Post 521 and member of American Legion Post 116.
Elsie's work history was extensive. She was a homemaker and in the late 50's she drove a taxi cab for Valley Cab. She had a paper route that she drove every morning and afternoon in the late 50's through the 70's. Her working in the restaurant industry included the Colonial Inn, Longhorn Steak House, Captain Harvey's, and Hardees. In the early 60's, Elsie was one of the first women to become a school bus driver in Baltimore County for Gordon Lockard. She drove the school bus for 13 years. Her most driving job was from 1985-2003; she drove the crab truck for Captain Harvey's.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter Catherine Jackson Tarr of Whaleyville, MD.; her grandsons Douglas Tarr of Whaleyville, Md., and Bryan Tarr and his wife Rachel of Parsonsburg, Md; her four great grandchildren Dayton and Devin Tarr of Whaleyville, Md. and Abigail Elsie and Bryan Tarr, Jr. of Parsonsburg, Md.; her brother Paul Hyde; and all her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Gail Lynn Jackson in April of 2011.
A private cremation was held at All Faiths Crematory and Chapel in Manchester.
A memorial gathering will be held 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catherine M. Tarr, 13 N. Ritters Ln., Owings Mills, MD 21117, to help with funeral expenses.
