Evelyn Harriet Bladow Gordon
Evelyn B. Gordon of Westminster died December 6, 2012 at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA at age 85. She was born on December 9, 1926 in Wisconsin, the daughter of Harry and Hanna Bladow. She was married to Thomas S. Gordon for 66 years. They met at a USO dance in Milwaukee and were married on May 30, 1946 in California. In 1948, they purchased Good Luck Farm where she and her husband raised Black Angus cattle.
She worked for the Port Authority in New York City during World War II, served on the Carroll County Republican Central Committee, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester. Evelyn was interested in antiques, enjoyed gardening and working outdoors, as well as classical music. She was an avid Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers fan. Pets were always part of the family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law Thomas S. Gordon, Jr. and Carolyn of Westminster; two grandchildren, Thomas S. Gordon III and wife Brianna of Westminster, and Carrie and husband Richmond Goughneour of Rock Hill, SC; brothers Harry Bladow of Oregon, Robert Bladow of Wisconsin, and Leonard Bladow of Illinois, and sister Laura Moody of California and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in death by her brothers Leo, Franklin, Harley, and Alvin Bladow, and sisters Marion Lawder, Margaret Skipper, and Helen Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St Mark's Lutheran Church-Snydersburg, 1616 Cape Horn Road Hampstead, MD 21074 with the Reverend Michael C. Adams officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll Regional Cancer Center located at 555 South Center Street, Westminster, MD 21157.
