Listen to Obituary
Frank Szparaga, longtime resident of Reisterstown, MD, died peacefully March 29, 2013 in hospice at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD.

Devoted husband of the late Lise Marie Francoise, he is survived by sons Daniel (Cindy) and Marc (Patty) Szparaga, and daughters Kathryn (Scott) Derr and Elyse (Jerry) Weckesser, and also by his treasured grandchildren Alexis, Katelyn, Andrew, Amanda, Sydney, Alec, Zachary, Dalton, Bradley and Madison.

Frank was born on April 9, 1933 in Erie, PA to Joseph and Hedwig Szparaga and was one of ten children. He graduated from East High School in Erie in 1952 and served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He was stationed at Osan Air Base in South Korea, and stateside in Louisiana and South Carolina.

Frank studied electrical engineering at Gannon University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1962. He worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation from 1962 to 1990, primarily at the firm's Hunt Valley location in the 1970's and 80's.

It was while working on a project for Westinghouse in Saskatchewan, Canada that he met the young nurse Lise Legare who ultimately became his wife. Frank and Lise were married for 47 years. During the early years of their marriage, they lived throughout Canada, from Alberta in the west to Nova Scotia in the east. Subsequently, they lived in Jacksonville, NC, and then moved for good to Maryland in the late 1960's.

They lived in Laurel and Towson before making Reisterstown their home in 1974. Their years in Reisterstown were good. Eventually, Lise suffered from Alzheimer's disease and Frank became her caregiver. Lise passed away in March 2010, but their love transcends death.

Frank was active in church and community throughout his life. He was a youth wrestling coach throughout the 1970's and 80's, and participated in many church activities at his parish of Sacred Heart Church in Glyndon, MD. He was proud to be a daily Mass attendee. His hobby was woodworking, and his home was full of his many projects. Frank was utterly devoted to his grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of faith and community.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon on Friday at 10 a.m., with interment thereafter in All Saints Cemetery in Reisterstown, MD. A viewing will be held at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills on Thursday, April 4th, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association.
