Frederick David Longhenry

Frederick David Longhenry, 90, of Hampstead, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Long View Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 4, 1922, in Jacksontown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Henry and Rosa Smith Longhenry. He was the husband of Julia Ann Longhenry, his wife of 56 years, who died in January 2002.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy for six years as radioman first class during World War II, as well as the Korean conflict when he was a member of the Navy Reserves. He worked for the National Security Agency as an analyst, retiring in 1977, and returning in later years as a contractor.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Manchester, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Building Fund and caretaker. He was a longtime tutor with the Literacy Council of Carroll County, and became the legal guardian of one of his students so he could provide for his health care, hospitalization and funeral expenses.
Surviving are children and spouses, David and Christine Longhenry, of Glen Arm, Maryann and Stuart Bonning, of Snydersburg, and Fred Longhenry, of Baltimore; grandchildren Kathleen Longhenry, and Erin, Kate and Devon Bonning; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a half brother, John Lamp; a brother, Raymond Longhenry; and sisters Violet Nichols, Mabel Farnham, Clara Carlton and Dorothy Longhenry.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2930 Hanover Pike, Manchester, with his priest, the Rev. Michael Roach, as celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Bartholomew Church Building Fund, 3071 Park Ave., Manchester, MD 21102.
