Gary Dean Redding, 69, of Hampstead, MD passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at his home. Born on June 24, 1948 in Hampstead, MD, he was the son of the late Sterling R. and Beulah Susan McCullough Redding.
Gary was a lifelong member of Millers United Methodist Church, where he was very involved with the church and was the cemetery caretaker. He was a decorated Army veteran of Vietnam, was honorably discharged, and the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 200.
He is survived by children: Gary Sterling Redding of Hampstead, MD, Sherry Willard and husband Barry of Smithsburg, MD, and stepdaughter: René Naylor and husband Steve of Hampstead, MD, his former wife of 40 years: Dianne Redding of Hampstead, MD, grandchildren: Ryne, Nicole, Brooke, and Philip, great-grandchildren: Carson and Tucker, a nephew: Ken Alban, great nieces: Shelley Brown and Lisa Rill, a great nephew: Matthew Davidson, and a special friend: Joan Lawson.
He was predeceased by a sister: Joan Leister and a niece: Brenda Alban.
The family will receive friends at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, on Tuesday, December 5, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm and Wednesday, December 6, from 10-11 am, with a funeral service at 11 am. Interment to follow in Millers Church Cemetery, Millers, MD.
