George Moffett Cochran Doub Jr.,78, an attorney, died after a courageous struggle with a neurological disease on Sunday, June 24, in Baltimore, MD. George was the son of George Moffett Cochran Doub and Sophy Tayloe Snyder of Owings Mills, MD.

A life-long Baltimore resident, George attended The Gilman School for Boys, where he was captain of the wrestling team, Harvard University, where (again captain of the wrestling team) he graduated cum laude in history.  Upon graduation from Harvard in 1962, he married Mary Worthington Tyler, whom he had met at the age of thirteen. He received his law degree in 1965 at the University of Virginia Law School. He was made partner in his early thirties at Venable, Baetjer and Howard, where he spent 35 years before going into private practice alongside Billy Murphy. He represented W. R. Grace for many years as a litigator.  In his last case he represented himself successfully against Deutsche Bank.

He and Mary had a long and happy marriage of fifty-six years, the anniversary of which they celebrated on June 23 rd .  As a litigator, his engaging smile and quiet logic played a large part in his winning so many of his cases. He loved to debate and was always interested in opposing points of view. He loved physics, was an avid skier and reader, happy in nature, and especially at the family summer camp in the Adirondacks. He felt that the major problem of the world was overpopulation.  He was especially proud of his wife's endeavors in the bluegrass music industry.

George's strong personality, the curl of his smile, his courage, the deep moral values that he never imposed on anyone but that rippled through his being, his courtesy and a spirit of generosity, his curiosity, keen sense of humor, and kindness made him a joy to be with and adored by many.

He was a life-long member of the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club and the Baltimore Bachelors' Cotillion.

He is survived by his wife Mary, two sons, George C. Doub III and Robb Tyler Doub, their wives Rebecca and Siri Lise, and six grandchildren: George IV, Victoria, Frederic, Robb Jr., Astri and Poe.   He is survived also by two sisters, Anne Doub Marzin of Lyon, France and Sophy Burnham of Washington DC.
