George Calvin Essich, 91, of Manchester died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Longview Nursing Home in Manchester.
Born July 18, 1916, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Frank and Cora M. Koontz. He was the husband of Mildred Irene Hare Essich, who died in 1989.
He was an Army veteran.
He was the former owner and operator of the Dutch Corner Restaurant in Manchester. He had also worked at the Piney Branch Golf Club.
He was a life member of the Westminster Moose, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks and the Eagles, all of Westminster. He was also a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Westminster.
Surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Mary Alice Hare of Manchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters Margaret Kauffman and Helen Dyott; and brothers Oscar and Albert Essich.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, with the Rev. Jeffrey Odom officiating. Interment will be in Krider's Church Cemetery in Westminster.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
