George Daryl "Pappy" Hayes, 56, of Manchester passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD.
Born June 17, 1956 in Irwin, PA, he was the son of the late George Hayes and Joanne Montrose Hayes. He was the loving husband of Kathy Dee Shearer Hayes, his wife of 33 years.
He was an ironworker and welder with Local 16, The International Association of Bridge Structures for most of his career. He enjoyed climbing iron and the satisfaction of setting the building.
During his retirement, he spent his time volunteering at Carroll Hospital Center, assisting with building maintenance at Shiloh Stepping Stones, working on stained glass, gardening, riding his motorcycle, camping, fishing, but most important being Pappy.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his daughter Tara Benicewicz and husband Brian; his grandchildren Sidney, Taylor, and Carter Benicewicz; his sister Linda Hayes Anthony and family; his mother-in-law Joan Shearer; his brother-in-law Vernon Shearer; his nephews Daniel and Nicholas Shearer; and is survived by 2 sisters, 3 brothers and their families in addition to and predeceased by his brother Mark Hayes.
A private graveside service will be held at New Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Joseph Benicewicz officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his grandchildren's education trust; checks should be made payable to the Tara C. Benicewicz in Trust for Sidney, Taylor, and Carter; and may be mailed in care of Mrs. Tara C. Benicewicz, 185 Colvilla Drive, Westminster, MD 21157.
