George Renfro passed away Friday, September 24, 2021, unexpectedly at his home in Hampstead, MD. He was 76 years old.
He was born May 15, 1945, in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from North Carroll High School in 1963. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked for Parrott Construction Company for the next 40 years as a heavy equipment operator. After his retirement from Parrott, he started George H. Renfro Excavating and was still operating up until his death.
George was an avid antique Caterpillar Crawler enthusiast and restorer. He loved to attend steam engine and tractor shows with his late wife, Linda. He spent most of his spare time restoring antique Caterpillars and tractors. He was a member of the Maryland Historical Steam Engine Association and the Mason-Dixon Historical Society. He loved spending time with his family and his dog, Jake.
In addition, George was also a member of Post 200 American Legion in his hometown of Hampstead, MD. He enjoyed sitting and chatting with friends and family. He was a hard worker who could fix just about anything. He loved cowboy movies.
Surviving him is his sister and brother-in-law, Alene and Robert Stickles, sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Roger Hare. He was also survived his son and spouse, Clint and Erin Renfro, grandchildren, Garrett and Laura Renfro, his daughter and spouse Ronda and James (Bob) Nichols and grandson Rylan Nichols, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Renfro, his parents Zeak and Janet Renfro, and his brother, Ronald Renfro.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 30, from 6 – 9 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 1, at 10 am, at Kirkridge ARP Church, 2236 Old Fort Schoolhouse Road, Hampstead, MD, with Rev. Steven Badorf officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
