George Cleveland Therit, Jr. age 90 of New Oxford, PA. formally of Manchester, MD. died on Monday August 27, 2012 at the Brethren Home at Cross Keys Village, in New Oxford, PA.


Born on September 19, 1921 in Snydersburg, Maryland. He was the son of the late George C. and Elizabeth M. Gummel Therit Sr. He was the husband of Miriam Hunt Therit who died April 2001.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was employed by the State of Maryland as a painter. He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Broadway in Hanover, PA. and a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester, MD. Years ago he worked at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. in Manchester, MD. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 8896 of East Berlin, PA and a former member of Manchester Senior Citizens and the Manchester Vol. Fire Dept.

He is survived by sons E. Dean Therit and wife Pam of Hyndman, PA. and Darvin G. Therit and wife Patricia of Hampstead, MD. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by an Infant son and a brother: Carroll Therit.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 Wednesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel. P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD. where a funeral service will be held 11:00a.m. on Thursday with the Revs. David DeLong and Matthew Schenning officiating.


Interment will be in the Old Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester, MD.
