Gershom Christopher Byrnes

Gershom Christopher Byrnes, 55, of Manchester, MD, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at his residence. Born on October 16, 1964, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Myril and Christine Chew Byrnes. He was the beloved husband of Catherine Kelly Byrnes.

Gershom worked as a police officer for the Baltimore County Police Department for over 15 years. Before that, he worked with the State of Maryland as a corrections officer and a Home Detention Officer. He was also a marine and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.  A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he loved spending time with his family. If you never got to meet him, you missed out on someone great.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children: Courtney Byrnes of Reisterstown, MD, Ani Byrnes of Manchester, MD, and Gabriel Byrnes of Baltimore, MD, stepchildren: Stephen Colbert of Dover, PA, Shannon Colbert of Reisterstown, MD, and Justin Scott of Manchester, MD, a sister: Myra Greene of Baltimore, MD, and grandchildren: Alauna, Kahlil, Kaylee, Ashton, Mason, Ayden, and Ava.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, March 5, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, at 11:30 am. Interment to follow in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills, MD.
