Harold Lee Derrickson, 95 of Manchester, MD, passed on Feb. 1, 2023, at his daughter's home from cancer. Born April 6, 1927, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of the late Wilfred Lee and Leta Janet Phillips Derrickson. He was the husband of Mary "Pat" Derrickson.
Harold was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, an entrepreneur of many businesses, former President of Unitec Industries and owned Family Washday Super laundromats. His company built the Sutro Tower in San Francisco. His passion was sailing and for years he participated in the racing sport on the Chesapeake Bay, Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.
He is survived by his children: Barbara Duffey, Lisa Lee Robbins and husband Keith, Mary Lee Costello, Lee Derrickson and wife Jessica and Liz Tharrington. Grandchildren: Andrew, Meghan, Garrett, Evan, Jena, Lauren, Liam, Julian, Everett and Isabella, great grandchildren: Todd and Bradley, four nieces and former wives: Carlin Derrickson and Janet Derrickson.
He was predeceased by a daughter: Marsha Derrickson, sister: Corinne Fitch and former wife: Barbara Henderson Derrickson.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills, MD, at a later date.
Arrangements are by the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., Owings Mills, MD.
