Harold "Dutch" Schaeffer, 93, of Manchester died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Lorien Nursing Center in Taneytown.
Born on March 29, 1917 in Bachman Valley, he was the son of the late Elmer John David Schaeffer and Vola May Dice Schaeffer. He was the husband of the late Catherine Mary Staub Schaeffer, who died January 11, 2005.
He worked for Congoleum Nairn Corporation and was the Sexton at Jerusalem Lutheran and Reformed Church in Bachman Valley. In addition, he worked for the Hampstead Car Wash.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Manchester and had been a foster care father in Carroll County for several years.
Surviving are his children and spouses Harold LeRoy and Carole Schaeffer of Arcadia, FL, Robert Franklin, Sr. and Bonnie Schaeffer of Westminster, Helen Louise Haines of Taneytown, Shirley Elizabeth and George Rill of Hampstead, and Linda Lee and Dennis Yingling of Manchester; his sister Rosella Hartlaub; his sister in law Mary M. Schaeffer; and also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son Larry Eugene Schaeffer; his brothers Glidius, Algrude and Raymond Schaeffer; his sisters Larue Lucas, Lamana Smith, and Hora "Betty" Leaf; and his 2 grandsons.
A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at John Luther Miller Cemetery, Bachman Valley Road, Westminster with Rev. Samuel Chamelin officiating.
