Harry Radford Harper, who founded Myland Farms Nursery in Stevenson, MD, passed away on December 12, 2017 in his Cockeysville home at the age of 88.
Son of Lewis and Ellen Harper, he was born on August 14, 1929, in Baltimore County. Raised in Greenspring Valley, he graduated from Franklin High School in 1949 and earned an art degree from the Maryland Institute in 1953.
Harry took pride in his work as a decorator for Field's Pharmacy, engraver for the Stieff Company, designer for Adler Display, in-house decorator for Baltimore Gas and Electric, graphic designer for the Sweetheart Cup Company, and landscaper for Pilkey's Garden Center before founding the Myland Farms Nursery in 1971, which he owned and operated for nearly 40 years.
"Always one to enjoy life, he was such a talented and giving man," said his wife of 65 years Jeanette Lucas Harper. "He worked so hard his whole life to make a difference for his family and others around him."
An avid gardener, craftsman, and beachgoer, Harry is survived by his wife; three daughters, Nancy Winkler, Jacqueline Skudrna, and Susan Grabarek; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 65 Sacred Heart Lane, Reisterstown, MD 21136.
