Harry Monroe Ryan, Jr., 94, of Hampstead, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at his home in Hampstead, MD. Born on May 2, 1932, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Harry Monroe Ryan, Sr. and Anna Schmidt Ryan and had one older sister Elaine who preceded him in death.

Harry grew up in Baltimore where he attended Baltimore City College High School. He graduated from University of Maryland College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957.

He married Elaine Vivian Greenstreet on October 20, 1962 at Emannuel Lutheran Church in Baltimore. MD. Harry and Elaine were married almost 65 years. They had two sons, and the family settled in Hampstead, Maryland where Harry and Elaine have lived for the last 47 years. Harry had over 30 years of diversified experience in technical and managerial positions in information processing primarily for financial institutions (Union Trust Bank, Equitable Trust Bank, Maryland National Bank, and Bank of America). He held managerial positions to include System and Program Manager and Vice President Corporate Data Security and Electronic Data Processing (EDP) Audit. After retiring from the Bank of America, Harry worked as an Information Security Consultant contractor for the Department of Transportation traveling from Hampstead to Washington D.C.

He was a member and past president of the Lineboro-Manchester Lions Club, and he and Elaine were long-time parishioners of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Catonsville.

Surviving him in addition to his wife are sons Harry Monroe Ryan III (Elizabeth) of Mandeville, LA, Stephen Michael Ryan (Julie) of Sykesville, MD, and granddaughters Kelly Ryan, MacKenzie Ryan, Christina Gonzalez La Luz (David), and Veronica Ryan.

Harry loved spending time with his family, traveling across the country with Elaine on three different occasions and spending time working in his yard. He was an avid sports fan and loved cheering for his favorite teams which included the Baltimore Colts, Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, and Maryland Terrapins. He always was the best ‘Monday morning quarterback’ and gave the best post-game analysis – “They were pitiful!” Harry was also a model train enthusiast, setting up large Lionel train and Department 56 displays in his basement. Harry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his wife and his family.

A memorial service and luncheon will be scheduled at a later time. Please check back for updates to the obituary on Eckhardt Funeral Chapel’s web site.
