Helen Gail Starkey

Helen Gail Shrader Starkey, 82, of Hampstead, MD, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at University of Maryland in Baltimore. Born on October 26, 1940, in Mudfork (Tazewell County), VA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel "Grat" and Rhoda "Fay" (Bowling) Shrader. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Kenneth Dicus, and the late Okey Starkey.

Helen loved to play bingo, Scrabble, cards, and other games. She enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and church hymns. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children: Mark Dicus, David Dicus, Scott Dicus and wife Deborah, Michael Dicus and wife Lara, Jackie (Starkey) Bowersox and husband Marcus, grandchildren: James (Mikey), Courtney, Melissa, Julie, Kayla, Jacob, Clayton, Addy, and great-grandchildren: Jaelynn, Connor, Liam, Makenna, Waylonn, and Sophie.

Helen was predeceased by her siblings: Gene, Hugh, Hurley, Louis, Jimmy, and Margie, as well as daughter-in-law: Karen Dicus.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 26, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, January 27, at 10 am.

Interment to follow in Greenmount United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hampstead, MD.
