Henry Smith Brooks, 87, of Hampstead, MD, passed peacefully on December 20, 2017, at the Golden Crest Assisted Living in Hampstead. Born June 2, 1930, in Galveston, Texas, he was the son of the late John W. and Louise Gonzales Brooks. He was the husband of the late Shirley Eileen Swanson Brooks, who died in 1997.

Henry was a retired analyst for the Social Security Administration. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948 to 1954. Henry was a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned a Purple Heart.

Surviving are his sons, John R. Brooks of Park Ridge, IL and Robert B. Brooks of Manchester, MD, a sister; Silvia Warner of Houston, Texas, grandchildren; Eric, Amanda, Matthew and Andrew, a great grandson; Austin, and longtime companion Marlene Trainor of Glyndon, MD.

He was predeceased by 10 siblings.

The family will receive friends at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL P.A., 3296 Charmil Dr., Manchester, MD on Friday Dec. 29, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  Interment will be private.
