Henry Walter Eckhardt, Jr.

Henry Walter Eckhardt, Jr., 72, of Reisterstown, MD, passed away on December 5, 2021, peacefully at his home. Born on July 28, 1949, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Henry W. Eckhardt, Sr. and Ruth Eileen Klohr Eckhardt. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Evelyn Eckhardt.

Henry was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served 3 tours in Vietnam War. While in the Navy, he served aboard the Henry B Wilson and U.S.S. Ticonderoga and was involved in the retrieval of Apollo 16. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a Life Member of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving him in addition to his wife is daughter: Theresa Akerman-Ihle, grandchildren: JoEllen Ihle, Dylan Henry Ihle, Marie Bitzel and husband Chad, Michele Buchholz and husband Brandon, Eddie Sible and wife Catherine, Richard Kosmicki and wife Serena, and 12 great-grandchildren, and sisters: Brenda Eckhardt, Pam Higgs and husband Bryan, 1 nephew and 3 nieces and aunt: Shirley Botts. He is also survived by dear family friends: Roger and Mary Rose Schwarb and their 4 children.

Henry was predeceased by his daughter: Laura Ann Akerman-Hicks.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a line of duty full honors funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 11, at 10:30 am. Per family request, regardless of vaccination status, masks are required.

Entombment with military honors to follow in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium, MD.
