Herman C. Prietz

Herman C. Prietz, 99, of Reisterstown, MD, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2022, at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA.  He is predeceased by his first wife: Inez Prietz and stepson: William Krider.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis A. Prietz.  He is also survived by his daughter: Mikki (Glenn) Lewis of Ellicott City, MD, sons: Ronald (Cindy) Prietz of Westminster, MD, Robert (Shirl) Prietz of Hanover, PA, stepsons: Mark (Jeanne) Krider of Westminster, MD, and stepdaughters: Karen (Mark) Kohr of Reisterstown, MD and Sharon (Glenn) Meekins of Finksburg, MD, and a brother: Ronald Prietz of Baltimore, MD, and two sisters: Regina Prietz and Bertha Letrio, both of Baltimore.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.  Herman was one of 11 children, and the third oldest of his brothers and sisters.  Herman was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be sorely missed.

Herman served his country gallantly and honorably as a rifleman while in the Army's 7 ^th infantry and helped clear the way to allow safe passage for General Patton's tank brigades.  He served overseas within the European Theater of Operations, along with several of his predeceased brothers.  He was recently presented with a lifetime membership by the VFW on his 99 ^th birthday, along with other memorabilia commemorating his years of service to our country.

Herman worked as a machinist and later as the shop foreman for Universal Machine, Sweetheart/Solo Cup for many years in Baltimore, MD, and retired in 1983.  Herman was the ultimate fix-it kind of guy.  He was an usher and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Glyndon, MD since 1967 and later at St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Hanover, PA.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, September 6, from 9:30 am – 11:30 am, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:30 am.

Interment with a graveside service will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
